Episode 12: Elise Dumontet
International photographer and creative director Elise Dumontet — a self-taught Frenchwoman who went from waitressing in London to shooting the launch issue of Indian Vogue — joins Scott & Jamie for a conversation about storytelling through the lens, rather than the page.
In a departure from our usual format, Elise doesn't bring three books. Instead she brings three ideas: the photographers whose work tells a story — Nick Knight, Annie Leibovitz, Tim Walker — and what it means to know a picture is theirs before you see the credit; the moment she found herself retouching a 21-year-old model for an anti-wrinkle cream and thought something has to change; and The Skin We're In, the project that followed — two-metre-tall unretouched portraits of people with limb differences, vitiligo, burns and scars, exhibited in London and France.
