Episode 14: Erim
Erim Kaur — founder of haircare brand ByErim and influencer — joins Jamie & Scott to share the three stories that shaped who she became, spanning grief and grace, the hard work of confronting yourself, and the search for a cultural home you weren't quite handed.
Story 1: A Little Princess — Frances Hodgson Burnett
Type: Novel. One of her mum's favourite books, read to her over and over before her mum passed away when Erim was eight. The story of a girl who loses her mother and, against every hardship, "remains regal, humble, respectful" — it became a kind of rule book for Erim on how to carry herself with grace when she didn't have a mother to show her how.
Story 2: What Happened to You? — Oprah Winfrey & Dr. Bruce Perry
Type: Non-fiction. This book gave Erim the language and the science to start looking critically at what she'd been through. Its central idea — that you have to be "regulated," your basic needs met, before you can do any real emotional work — became a phrase her whole team now uses day to day.
Story 3: Thoughts to Heal
Type: Book. A small book that sold out on Amazon the day Erim posted about it. Growing up with little exposure to her wider cultural community, she knew the religious side of her background but not the cultural side — this book helped fill that gap.
